Welcome to Hartman's Longhorns

Charles Hartman was born and raised around cattle in the yucca-studded, semi-arid High Plains along Hwy. 36 in the northwestern part of Kansas. He moved to Alabama in high school and eventually found himself in the towing and body shop business, a career path he has followed for more than 20 years.

Feeling a strong connection to this past, he and his wife Shirley purchased a few head of Texas Longhorn Cattle in 2005 to "help keep the 90 acres mowed" and their hobby has grown into a business and a way of life.

With more than 30 head, the Hartman herd is becoming well known throughout the South for its big bodied cows with great horns. The herd is anchored by bulls Horseshoe J Roundup and Wiregrass Buck Shot.

Using proven Genetics from bulls Roundup, Gunsmoke, Farlap, Chex and Senator and cows Emperor, Measles, Tabasco, Headliner, Overwhlmer, Superior and Doherty, the Hartmans strive to breed the finest bloodlines in Texas Longhorns.

The legendary Texas Longhorns evolved without human management and were perfected by Mother Nature in the wilds of North America. They are known for their high fertility rate, easy calving, disease and parasite resistance, hardiness, longevity, and the ability to utilize pasture more efficiently than most other cattle breeds. The Texas longhorn is prized for its lean beef, which is lower in fat, cholesterol and calories than most beef. The excellent qualities of Texas Longhorn are also utilized for adding hybrid vigor and easy calving abilities when crossed with other breeds. However, they continue to represent the romance of the Old West and are often retained for their beauty and intelligence.
